June 15th was the eleventh annual Nature Photography Day. To celebrate, we ran our inaugural HyperDev contest, giving participants just two weeks to develop something interesting using HyperDev that promotes nature and getting out into the outdoors.
We received some great entries. Here are just a few of our favorites:
The Winner: Postcard Maker
by Sam Margalit
Postcard Maker is a simple, responsive web app where you can upload an image and it’ll be sent out as a postcard. Images are uploaded via the express backend, to the image host, cloudinary.com, via a node module. You can resize and crop the original image to postcard size and then it’s sent to the dispatcher, lob.com, for print and delivery via another node module. Stripe is used to process payments. Sam notes that “hopefully it will inspire some people to get outside and take photos. HyperDev was perfect for this project as it allowed me to switch effortlessly between backend code, environment variables, and client-side markup. It was so good I even forgot to save when I got back to my local editor!”
Well done Sam! He’ll receive our prize of:
- 2 Therm-a-Rest Treo Chairs
- A GoSun Sport Solar Oven
- A Philips ShoqBox Bluetooth Wireless Speaker
- A MiniPresso GR Espresso Maker
- A Grayl Quest Tap Water Filter
And of course, some sweet HyperDev contest winner only swag.
HyperWeather gives user-friendly, actionable weather forecasts. Read more about it on his blog.
Bring Me Nature provides a nature experience, combining nature imagery from Unsplash with relaxing audio.
NatureShare is a place where users can view and share nature images. It’s the first web app qk4 has published, so well done and keep up the good work!
All honorable mentions will receive HyperDev swag too! Thanks to everyone who participated, look out for other contests in the future.
