Once Upon a Time…
FogBugz users had the ability to add subscribers to a case, via a third-party plugin. With the advent of FogBugz Ocelot and the removal of third-party plugins from the land, this was no longer possible! There was much wailing and gnashing of teeth, and customers throughout the land wept for the loss of functionality.
The benevolent FogBugz developers were distraught by this outcry and sought to remedy it. Today, we announce the return of Add Subscribers, as a core feature in FogBugz Ocelot.
What’s Add Subscribers?
For those who haven’t used our Add Subscribers functionality before, it enables you to subscribe a person to a case and thus receive notifications of updates to it. This is rather than them having to opt-in themselves. So if you already know that someone will be interested in a specific issue, then you can now do away with suggesting they subscribe to it. No risk of the dreaded ‘oh, I didn’t know about it’ response. You add them from the Add Subscriber drop-down, on the left-hand side, inside a case:
Any Ocelot users that already have the Show-Subscribers option enabled will also have Add Subscribers enabled automatically. If you haven’t used it before, then a FogBugz admin can turn it on from Gear menu > Site Configuration > Advanced.
Subscribe Virtual Users
One especially exciting addition to the Add Subscribers functionality is the ability to subscribe Virtual Users to a case. This way, if you have a virtual user that corresponds to a mailing list (such as all developers on a project), you can make sure that they are kept in the loop on a case by adding the single virtual user, as opposed to a long list of individual names.
Further information about adding subscribers can be found on our help site.
